I agree Marlin Stutzman's attempt to recruit volunteers for his campaign through FWCS was inappropriate. And giving students extra credit for campaigning is also questionable, although FWCS teachers aren't all averse to such generosity, like how many cans math students collect in a can drive (can you count?), so they can give kids a passing grade.
But the official reaction is ludicrous. This incident would not even have come to light if Stutzman weren't a Republican, As far as I know every school board member is a Democrat. Krista Stockman owes her salary to their good will and as a former JG reporter probably has the same political leanings. But Stutzman's opponent for the house seat, Dr. Tom ("it's time we tried something new") Hayhurst, who campaigned for lifetime board member Steve Corona, made the biggest ass of himself by jumping on the bandwagon with his tirade. He gets no extra credit at all.

I have to agree with your blog. Wendy Robinson speaks ill of Governor Daniels to FWCS teachers at every opportunity. Why is this not stopped? If Stockman has time to bitch about this email than she has too much time on her hands. One more thing, a couple of years ago I dropped my son off at a local high school and saw the secretary walking in wearing an Obama t-shirt. I guess Krista does not have a problem with FWCS employees supporting a Democrat.
I hope you explained to your son that an FWCS employee making a political statement on school property was totally inappropriate.
I find it interesting that both the school system and the JG can bash Stutzman for recruiting out of the schools, but board member Pamela Martin Diaz has had teachers fund raising during school hours using school email and no one either in the administration or at the JG has a problem with it.
So is this the Repubican way -- that when you are caught doing something wrong, you justify it by pointing to someone else who also did it?
My children were taught that we are responsible for our own misdeeds and cannot shift the blame. They learned that rule back when they were 8 years old. I'm disappointed to hear there's an entire party out there that hasn't reached that maturity level yet.
So is this the Democrat way? Argue a point that everyone agrees with but ignore the fact that folks from your own party are more flagrant in abusing their position than the person accused. Seems if you look at the record it is the Republicans that are accountable for their own actions while the Democrats... just blame someone else... did you teach that to your children when they were 8years old...or is it just a natural thing for a democrat....

Well, Jon, I hope you and your ilk always get away with wrongful acts even when you get caught. Just keep squealing and pointing the finger in the opposite direction like so many postings here suggest.
As for me and my family -- as well as the people we choose to vote for, whichever party that might be -- we'll stick with the method of facing the consequences of poor decisions rather than always deflecting the attention to someone else.
I've never heard of any potential politician EVER use government resources to encourage teachers to bribe children with better grades if they help sway an election toward one candidate - himself!

This is the first time I've EVER seen ANYONE do something this pathetically low. The examples posted here don't even come close to the immoral act that Marlin Stutzman committed. I've seen other types of immoral acts (Sauder's purity-preaching mistress for example) but Marlin is the first that I've seen to ever use bribery with children.

We all agree that what Stutzman did was wrong, but we find your hypocrisy and that of FWCS and the Journal Gazette fascinating. You can condemn Stutzman for his actions, but either see no problem with, or outright condone a liberal FWCS School Board Member using the same computers and school personnel to fundraise for her campaign.
How about call it all wrong and vote for those who are not corrupt…oh yeah... That would leave a Republican supermajority in both houses…you couldn’t have that could you.
Jon- Look at it in perspective. GiaQuinta has turned the formerly non partisan school board into a liberal Democratic committee. They will have the honor of turning the keys to our 11 FAIL schools over to Tony Bennett, a Republican State Supertintendent and our Republican Governor.
