The other night I was watching one of the local news stations (which is unusual for me). After the usual bit on the most recent freeway car chase, (Mark Mellinger used to be a creditable newscaster) they had the superintendent of SAC talking about their budget reductions. He said they were preparing for the next round of cuts with possible cuts in salaries and health care benefits for teachers. Teachers actually prepared to sacrifice on behalf of the kids?
Unbelievable! Time to join the exodus, move to Aboite and vote in their next referendum to keep more teachers employed!

This was from the same guy who was bragging last week about how SACS was able to spend $825,000 more than the quoted cost of $425,000 to replace the Summit Middle School roof! And just because the Federal Government would pay $600,000 of the cost (probably borrowing the money - or at least trying to - from China) !!!

John - Apparently there's nothing wrong with it. School systems accept money from the Feds for Title I, for example because it's there. It hasn't worked but it keeps more teachers employed.
I was just surprised to hear that SAC teachers might be willing to make concessions to save other teachers' jobs, keep class sizes down and help the kids. And these are "rich" kids. In FWCS FWEA wouldn't even consider doing that to help the "poor" kids.
This may be off topic but Mr. GiaQuinta was on tv yesterday morning saying what a few teachers have been saying since last year. Mark said that since the LEAD program has been such a success, it might be implemented district wide next year. A success? When is it a success when the state is going to take over a school system?
GiaQuinta says a lot of things. At the teachers' rally the other day he said FWCS was the best district in the state. Just not good enough for his kids.
The "Lead" process has accomplished nothing so far. And extending it would just result in more teachers being shuffled around. The same faces at different schools if the union would even go along with it. Unless more schools fall under the threat of state takeover, I don't see how they can force teachers to go though this process again. They couldn't even force the ones with >10 yrs. seniority to go through it this time.
