This morning's JG editorial page claimed I was already organizing against the FWCS bond issue. Apparently part of their editorial ethos is stating their opinions as facts. Keep that in mind whenever you read their editorial page.
I'm not encouraged by what I've heard at board meetings so far and no one should take FWCS word for what they need as a fact either. So go to one of the four upcoming information sessions (sales jobs?) and decide for yourself. Fowler Finn said there were no major building issues remaining after NSHS was remodeled. The building deterioration issue only appeared on Wendy's radar after she failed to get the board to approve air conditioning. So her end run used building deterioration as cover for a grand remodeling project which would have included air conditioning. By repeating the deterioration theme about their "aging buildings" long enough they think they can jack up the number.
Pay attention and make up your own mind. My aging house, by the way, is 90 years old.

And don't forget to take the FWCS survey expressing your opinion on what is needed and how to pay for it. Remember that years ago, the FWCS board started using the levy for repairs et al to pay for the "bussing for racial balance" and that's why they have not been keeping up the existing buildings!
It will take 100 signatures on a petition to get it on the ballot in May. Then it will be up to the voters in the primary. No dueling petitions this time.
I'm curious. You refer to your "90 year old" home in your post. Would you make repairs to that home to make it a safe place to live? Would you replace a furnace that is far past its years of efficiency?
You regularly state on your blog that the only schools still succeeding are north of Coliseum Blvd. One of those would be Snider High School (there is no "Y" in Snider, by the way). Wouldn't it seem wise, if your silly theory were in fact true, to ensure its continued viability by making repairs to its structure and heating system so that it may continue to serve our children?
I have and would make necessary repairs as needed when needed. I have not replaced my old "inefficent", furnace because it runs fine and the cost of replacement can't be justified by fuel savings.
Yes it would have been wise make repairs as they came up and not wait until the situation became critical. It would have been wise to stop diverting money from the capital fund which is intended to pay for such repairs. It would have been wise four years ago to just ask for money necessary for repairs iinstead of piling on another $300 million or so for remodeling.
So how did Sider's ECA'c come out last year? Looks like up 2 points in English (59% passing), down ten points in Math (37% passing). How did they get off probation?

I work for a private school in desert southwest. (I am not going to state the exact location, as I don't want to give my idenity away. The school building is over 100 years old, so repairs are in order. However, the building repairs that are done are NECESSARY, and are done at the lowest cost possible. The fact is that the private school is responsible, and does not hold it's hands out for new buildings, new computer labs, new multiple gymnasiams...etc. We can educate our high school students for $5,7000. As, most of our students are first generation soon-to-be college students and minorities, the majority not only graduate to go on to higher education, but they go to school with full-scholarships. We have had multiple Bill Gates scholarship winners, and perfect SAT merit scholarship winners. Oh, how impossible. Oh, wait, half of our students don't have electricity, water or intenet access, but they do have a work ethic and no leadership with NO BS.
Every year we have a funding "crisis" at FWCS because union jobs and pay rates take precedence over all other required school funding needs. It is time for Fort Wayne to take control of the Board from the unionists.
We can start by sending a message to the School Administration and the "rubber stamp" School Board that ongoing school repairs must be made -- even if it causes 10 teachers to lose their jobs!
Gasp! We are told by the compliant media that Snider HS has rusty pipes and a leaky roof. However, the buck stops with management on these idiotic observations. With our eleven grand per student funding, there simply is no excuse for such travesties.
BTW, if we cannot afford repairs, we simply cannot even contemplate paying for the air conditioning of more buildings.

Fly - How do you propose to send that message to the board when Wendy and the union see to it that they always get enough like minded board members elected. They control the message and ignore the public. And the public doesn't pay attention or they believe the media, so maybe they deserve what they're getting.
Why take the survey on the FWCS website? They've already made up their minds.
You're probably right. It's like speaking out at the public hearing (pep session) and watching them going throuhg the motions before they "vote" on what they decided beforehand.
But they owe us the results of the survey, which we payed $355,000 to get. Then we can see if they ignored what we said and use that as motivation to get petition signatures and put it on the ballot.
