Wendy gets a hook

That's what a grade of "C" was called in my day. That's not the kind of hook we need to jerk her off the stage. Anyway that's down from an "A" last year. Well not really. The were never an "A" except under the IDE's screwed up new letter grade rating system, which had SAC and NAC rated as "C" districts.

But they got to pretend to be an "A" district until the IDE got their act together this year and the ratings were reversed. They got to hang banners all over town proclaiming themselves to be an "A" rated school district. They got to hang ""A" rated district" after FWCS in every print article for a year. They got to convince voters they deserved a bond issue to air condition their "A" rated schools.

Now that the IDE has fixed their calculation and FWCS' grade is realistic, they and the JG are complaining that the system is incomprehensible. There were no complaints last year. For a year FWCS and  incumbent board members John Peirce and Becky Hill were able to lie to us with the assistance of the IDE. You could argue that they really believed the ratings but that would be testimony to their incompetence. They should grateful for undeserved favors. Voters should be grateful to learn the truth before the election is over.

I always wondered what FWCS was going to do this year when they left the ranks of "A". Especially after spending so much money on advertisement.
So last year, it was great and the IDOE was spot on.
This year when they got demoted, they are taking it with a grain of salt.
Can't have it both ways. Unfortunately the teachers will pay the ultimate price. They will be told how bad they are doing, deemed inefficient and not get raises.
Sad scenerio

Actually an urban district should be happy with the "C" rating and they have no reason to take it out on the teachers. The board and administration may be pissed because they made asses of themselves by advertising the "A" as realistic. On the other hand the teachers have put a bunch of buffoons on the board thanks to FWEA campaign contributions.

Indianapolis will do anything to make themselves look like they are the answer to education in this country. Far from it. The colleges in this state have a 49% decline in the education departments. Who the hell would want to be a teacher in this state? One time "incentive pay" tacked on to your paycheck so you lose it in taxes. And you can only receive one every 2 yrs. And NO pay increase for a Masters. Do you really think that the universities will put up with this for long? They make a fortune on Masters Degrees. But in education they will mean nothing in IN. So why bother? Day care workers will make more than teachers...but hey...anything to keep the tax payers happy right? The FULL story(ies) on this ridiculous grading system has yet to come out. Find out why the delay happened in
releasing the scores really happened....like the Indy area that didn't like their grades and being an election year they were going to withdraw political contributions unless the grades were different. And they blame all the political bs on the democrats. Wake up Indiana before it is too late and VOTE these idiots out of IN

So who has the answer - Randi Weingarten, Nate Snellenberger, Al Jaquay? Indiana unions have long inserted themselves into politics for their own interest through Democratic politicians. "Public schools are sacred, they can't be fixed, just keep sending your taxes." What did they think would happen if the Republicans took over?

I know a NM private school that pays its principal $22,000. She's awful, and makes Wendy look swell! The funny thing is the school had a ton of applications, so don't kid yourself. Schools will still have their pick of teachers.

Absolutely no respect for FWCS union. They did nothing for the teachers during the big layoff/rehiring, nor the closing of Elmhurst. Teachers were lost or shuffled after bonds and school families had been built. One of the most important thing these kids needed was consistentcy and FWCS didn't give a hoot. The kids there are trying to rebuild those as are the teachers, but, I fear that after this year and the LEAD school contracts end a mess will begin again. Either FWCS will start the shuffel or teacher/administrators will be begging to get out of tough situations. Either way it isn't going to be pretty. It will be the teachers' fault that FWCS dropped. Even though they are teaching state standards for the test according to FWCS the teachers never do enough. Well get all those teachers who are sitting in positions outside the classroom and get them back where they belong. The public would cringe if they knew how many wasted positions there are.

Luers' GRE test scores were lower than Wayne's. How do you explain that Luers got an A?

Code Blue Schools said...

You mean ECA's? According to the IDE tables Wayne's passing rates were 34% for Alg9, 64% for Eng10. Luers' were 34% fo Alg9 87% for Eng10. The Luers math number doesn't make sense. Dwenger was 84% passing in Alg9. But that's what it says. Wayne got a "D" grade. I wouldn't give Luers an "A" if that math number is rignt, but maybe they brough Dr. Bennett a lot of cans and Kleenex.

Code Blue Schools said...

It may be that most of the kids coming into Luers have already pasaed the math ECA in 8th grade, like St.John's on Fairfield (20 out of 23 or 87% passing in Alg9) and that the low number relative to their class size who actually took the math test at Luers were mostly voucher transfers from EACS. Everyone would take the Eng10test at Luers.

I don't know what other schools feed into Luers but if you want to dig into it be my guest..

The kids who took the ECA in 8th grade are counted as a part of the group at their high school, so those that passed the test in 8th grade would actually help Luers' Algebra pass rate. That's why you recruit smart kids.

Code Blue Schools said...

The 34% passing math at Luers on the IDE spreadsheet is based only on 9th graders (less than 40) who took it. No other grades were included. So I don't believe 8th graders are figured into high school numbers. To do that right they would have to know which high schools they went to.

With "choice" in FWCS that would be a problem. 8th graders who take it in FWCS do much better than 9th graders. Presumably they're the better students.

Anonymous said...

Luers' accepts students based on ISTEP scores, so I highly doubt EACS students are the problems, or Canterbury would never pass at record levels. There are a few kids from EACS that go to Canterbury HS every year.

The 8th graders' ECA scores follow them to their high schools. They are considered a part of their particular age group (i.e. freshman class), so their scores from 8th grade are a part of the freshman class they join, without regard to the school they attend.

Clearly, 8th graders who take algebra are considered "the better students" in the 8th grade, so they should be passing the ECA at a higher rate than the 9th graders who are all required to take the exam.

Code Blue Schools said...

The are about 600 kids at Luers, 158 9th graders. The ECA results show only 50 kids taking the Al9 test, all 9th graders, then gives a total of 55 (34% passing). So it doesn't make sense.

Would have been merrier if we hadn't gotten Glenda Ditz. Like Mitch said, the only way to be popular is to do nothing, so she'll be well loved by the ISTA.

I don't know who FWCS has left to "run" a project, so they probably needed somebody. But how they ended up with the outfit from Ohio leaves a lot of unanswered questions, which is par for the course.
